Yoder's big day leads No. 20 Women's Basketball to 65-49 win at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS--Junior Cenzie Yoder notched her second double-double of the season as the No. 20 Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated John Carroll by a 65-49 score on Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Athletic Center.

With the win, the Polar Bears are now 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks fall to 5-2, 0-2.

Yoder scored a season high 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and also recorded a career high eight steals.

Senior Joanna Snyder also scored in double figures recording 10 points.

Melissa Spahar and Emily Johanson each scored 14 points for John Carroll.

A layup from senior Morgan Dumbaugh gave ONU a 19-12 lead with 9:24 left in the first half.

The Polar Bears kept their lead and took a 30-22 lead into the half.

Northern used a 7-0 run in the early part of the second half to open up a 42-26 lead 15:48 left.

Yoder scored four points during the run and freshman Brooke Espenschied added three.

A three pointer from Dumbaugh at the 11:21 mark gave the Polar Bears their largest lead of the afternoon at 53-28.

The Blue Streaks would battle back and cut the ONU lead to 55-44 with 4:40 left, but the Polar Bears responded with an 8-2 run to put the game away.

Northern was 25-of-65 (38.5 percent) from the field, while the Blue Streaks shot 19-of-55 (34.5 percent).

Both teams were solid from the line, with the Polar Bears going 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) and John Carroll going 9-of-11 (81.8 percent).

The Polar Bears won the rebounding battle by a 38-37 margin.

Northern turned the ball over 10 times, compared to 19 for John Carroll.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday when they host Muskingum at 3 pm.
