ADA – Junior Cenzie Yoder scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team opened up the Ohio Athletic Conference season with a 75-48 win over Marietta Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
With the win the Polar Bears go to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 4-2 and 1-1 in the OAC
ONU started off strong with a 23-8 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and did not trail in the contest.
Yoder shot 5-of-10 from the field and was 7-of-10 from the foul line to score her 17 points. She also dished out six assists to go with her 10 rebounds.
Krissy Rowe led the Pioneers with 13 points.
Leading 41-18 at halftime, the Polar Bears started the second half on a 6-2 run to take a commanding 57-20 lead.
Marietta answered with a 15-2 run to pull within 59-35 with 7:31 left in the game.
ONU shot a good 29-of-69 (42.0 percent) from the field, and only 1-of-13 from three point land for the game.
The Pioneers only shot 18-of-68 (26.5 percent) from the field, and put up 4-of-21 from behind the arch.
The Polar Bears were outrebounded by the Pioneers 50-49.
Ohio Northern will be in action again Wednesday when Badwin Wallace comes to the ONU Sports Center for a 7:30 pm OAC contest.
