Men's Golf finishes fifth at rain-shortened OAC Spring Invitational

SUNBURY — The Ohio Northern men's golf team finished fifth at the Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational Monday-Tuesday at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (46-21-1 overall) finished with 801 strokes in the tournament, which was shortened to 45 holes due to heavy rain Tuesday afternoon.

The teams were slated to play 27 holes each day, but not all 49 golfers finished their three rounds. Per OAC rules, the scores revert to the most number of holes completed by the field, which was 45.

Freshman Brandon Lambert led ONU with a 19-over par 197 on the par-72, 7012-yard course.

Lambert finished tied for 13th in the field.

Junior Ryan Wirtz tied for 20th with an 84-79-38—201, junior Colin Burns tied for 23rd with an 81-79-42—202, sophomore Andrew Quintrell tied for 29th with an 81-79-46—206 and freshman Rick Deichert was 37th with an 86-84-41—211.

Otterbein's Taylor Harle won Medalist honors with an even par 72-73-35—180.

Otterbein won the team title with a 736, Mount Union was second with a 777 and Capital was third with a 790.

The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season at the Wooster Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
