ADA Junior David Penny (Union/Milton-Union) earned Honorable Mention At-Large Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as voted upon by conference’s ten faculty representatives.
Penny earned Academic All-OAC Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season. He ended the year with a 29-10 record and a perfect 4-0 in OAC bouts.
After winning the 125-pound OAC Title in 2007, Penny finished runner-up this season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. At the NCAAs, he finished just one win shy of earning All-American honors for the second straight season.
Penny also finished third at the ONU Invitational and fourth at the Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Wilson Invitational.
The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
