Several run NCAA qualifying marks for Track & Field at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ohio Northern track & field team's turned in three NCAA qualifying times on the men's side and one on the women's side at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana.
Sophomore Evan Heyman was apart of both the 4x100-meter relay team and 4x400-meter relay team that ran NCAA Provisional qualifying times.
Heyman teamed with senior Justin Linzy, sophomore Ryan Fleming and freshman Travis Althouse in the 4x100-meter relay which ran the race in 41.72.
Then in the 4x400-meter relay, Heyman was joined by sophomore Shane Huntley, junior Joe Amstutz and senior Jimmy O'Brien to finish in 3:14.80. This was also the best on the season for the Polar Bears who ran 3:18.84 earlier in the season.
O'Brien (2nd) ran his best time in the year in the 800-meter run in an NCAA Automatic qualifying time of 1:48.68. He ran the race in 1:48.45 a season ago to set the school record.
Senior Dani Noe was the lone female Polar Bear to run an NCAA Provisional time, finishing the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.71 and earning sixth place.
Several other Polar Bears ran season best's during the meet.
Junior Courtney Zupancic threw a season best 150-01 in the hammer throw, just 10 inches away from an NCAA Provisional mark.
Running with O'Brien in the 800 was freshman Chris Fortson who ran a career-best 1:58.91.
Freshman Jacob Schwab also ran a personal best in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.78.
Juniors Tony Thomas and Jacob Weyrauch turned in season best marks in their events.
Thomas threw 131-03 in the hammer throw, while Weyrauch vaulted over 15-1 in the pole vault.
Ohio Northern will compete again next weekend at North Central (Ill.)
