COLUMBUS -- Senior Chris Matejka scored on a penalty kick to jump start the No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory at Capital Tuesday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-2-0 overall and are 2-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 5-3-3, 0-1-1.
Matejka netted his penalty kick with 22:38 gone in the match to break a scoreless tie and give ONU a 1-0 lead.
Senior Cameron Johnson scored an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute and Ohio Northern took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Senior Nate Bascom scored his OAC-leading 13th goal of the season with 6:12 gone in the second half to make it a 3-0 match. Bascom scored off an assist from junior Matt Fleming.
Juniors Michael Grossnickle and Stephen Perkins combined for the match's final goal when Grossnickle scored in the 81st minute.
Mac Church registered his seventh shutout of the season (and the school record 39th of his career) in goal for ONU.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday with a 7 pm contest at Baldwin Wallace.
