By: Tim Glon

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team moved up nine spots to No. 16 in the sixth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association weekly poll on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears (77-9) finished fifth of 43 teams at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday, defeating six nationally-ranked teams in the process.

ONU was ranked No. 25 in the second, third and fifth polls, was No. 24 in the fourth poll, was No. 35 in the first weekly poll and was No. 33 in the USTFCCCA Preseason poll.

Northern received 163 points in voting conducted by the eight-member voting panel, 73 more than the 90 it received in last week's poll.

Williams (Mass.) remained at No. 1 in this week's poll, Washington (Mo.) stayed second and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.)  and defending national champion Middlebury (Vt.) are tied for third.

The Ohio Northern women's cross country program has also clinched its 20th consecutive winning season in 2011.

The Polar Bears will return to action Oct. 29 when they host the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Lost Creek Country Club in Lima.
