LONG BEACH, Cal. — Junior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) followed up her historic performance at the Mt. Sac Relays with a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Cal. on Saturday afternoon.

The junior set the school record in the event and ran the sixth fastest time in Div. III history, finishing first in 4:21.19.

Richards currently owns the best time nationally among Div. III athletes.

"Yesterday was a great atmosphere for Emily," said head coach Jason Maus. "These last two days have been a great opportunity for her. At the Mt. Sac Relays she got into a fast heat and the race took off very fast. She handled it really well and ran a very strategic race. Having such a short turnaround to compete today was really a big factor but Emily was ready to go."

Northern will be back in action Saturday, Apr. 22 as it hosts the Polar Bear Invitational at Kerscher Stadium.
