FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the NWCA National Duals at the Memorial Coliseum on Thursday.

The Polar Bears (5-5 overall) finished the day with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Wilkes (Pa.) Thursday evening.

Trailing 19-0 after the 149-pound weight class, Ohio Northern won the final six bouts, led by first period pins from senior Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) at 157 pounds and seventh-ranked sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) at heavyweight, to win 24-18.

Nelson's pin made it 19-6 and senior Seth Meyer (Defiance) followed with a decision at 165 to make it 19-9.

Ninth-ranked junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) also won by decision, posting a 6-1 victory at 174 pounds.

Senior Alex Bair (Centerville) and senior Evan Hickey (Wilmington) followed with decisions at 184 and 197. Wilkes was penalized a team point after the 197-pound bout, evening the score at 18-all heading into the deciding Heavyweight match.

Barcaskey got a quick takedown and a pin just 1:52 into the match to seal the victory for the Polar Bears.

Earlier in the day, ONU was topped by Cortland State (N.Y.) 29-12 in the first round Thursday morning and were downed by No. 21 Centenary (N.J.) 31-9 in the consolation bracket on Thursday afternoon.
