Senior Jordan Kimes scores a game-high 15 points in Women's Basketball 61-50 loss to Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND — Senior Jordan Kimes leads the Ohio Northern women's basketball team as they fell to Case Western Reserve 61-50 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Horsburgh Gymnasium.

Ohio Northern falls to 8-3 overall, 4-0 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Case Western Reserve improves to 6-5 overall.

Kimes had a game-high 15 points and pulled down five rebounds, while freshman Amy Bullimore added 8 points and a team-high ten rebounds.

The Polar Bears jumped to a 2-0 lead to start the game as Kimes was able to get a lay up off a missed jumper from junior teammate Carly Thomas.

Ohio Northern continued to lead the contest at the 15:41 mark in the first half as Bullimore made a layup to give ONU the 6-3 advantage.

Case Western followed this with an 8-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the contest 11-7.

With just 12:38 remaining until halftime Kimes led a Polar Bear 11-0 run that gave ONU the 18-11 advantage.

Laura Mummey of Case Western would lead a Spartans 7-0 run that brought them within 23-21 to end the first half.

The Spartans were able to gain the lead at the 17:57 mark in the second half as Brooke Orcutt was able to make a free throw to put Case Western up 26-25.

The two teams exchanged points for several minutes before Thomas was able to make a three pointer to give Ohio Northern the 34-33 lead with just over 13 minutes to go.

The Polar Bears forfeited the lead minutes later following a pair of made free throws from the Spartans Kara Hageman to push the score to 44-41.

Case Western pushed its lead to 54-45 following a 7-0 run with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.

Junior Brooke Espenschied was able to stall the Spartans run as she was able to complete the three point play and cut into the lead 54-48.

With just over two minutes remaining in the contest Case Western was able to put together one last run to defeat the Polar Bears 61-50.

Ohio Northern forced 16 turnovers in the contest and was able to net 11 points of the Case Western miscues. 

The contest saw 11 lead changes and four ties.

Ohio Northern is next in action Wednesday as they host conference opponent Mount Union at 7:30 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
