ADA — Three seasons ago, the Ohio Northern men's and women's golf teams began honoring veterans by carrying commemorative golf bags during competitions.

The team captain at each tournament will play out of one of the bags, honoring friends, alumni and student athletes that have served or are serving in the United States armed forces.

The bags are intended also to bring awareness to the Folds of Honor charity. Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission - to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service-members.

This season, bags honoring junior Alexis Miller (Wayne/Elmwood) and ONU head men's lacrosse coach Nat Saint Laurent will be carried by a Polar Bear golfer at each tournament.

"We couldn't think of a better opportunity to thank Alexis and Nat for their service," ONU head men's and women's golf coach Chad Bucci said. "It takes a special person to accept this challenge and they have tackled it. Over the past several years we have honored veteran friends and family members and we are thrilled to honor Alexis and Nat this season."

Both Miller and Saint Laurent are current members of the U.S. Army Reserves.

In past seasons, former ONU coaches and administrators Bill Robinson (Army) and Stretch Roberson (Navy) and friends of the golf program Eric Anliker (Army) and Shawn English (Army) have been honored by the Ohio Northern golf teams.

The Polar Bear men are scheduled to return to action Saturday and Sunday at the Mt. St. Joseph Classic, while the women will play at the MSJ Classic March 30-31.
